WHAT’S THE BOOK ABOUT
Cecilia
I moved to Orlando for a fresh start.
Nobody could know my secret.
Catching the attention of the hottest DJ in all of Orlando wasn’t in the plan.
He’s got moves, and they’re not just good. They are good.
Like the beats he spins in the booth, I fall fast for him and his crazy family.
When he finds out about my past, it won’t just break my heart but also crush my soul.
Brock
The third time I saw her at a crowded club, I had to have her.
After our first kiss, I knew she was a habit I would never want to break.
Knowing what she hid from me reinforces what I’ve known for so long. Women cannot be trusted.
Even knowing the worst, I can’t stay away from her.
But when push comes to shove, will I be able to keep her safe?

WHY YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
Cecelia has a murky past. She moves to Orlando for a fresh start, but could not anticipate falling in love with Brock, a handsome DJ. When Brock learns of Cecelia’s past, will he push her away, or will it make their bond stronger?
Relentless Habit by Karen Renee features an insta-love romance. It presents scores of intimate and steamy moments between Cecelia and Brock.
Cecelia is a strong woman, but she does not consider herself one. She sees the fault of her ways and is doing everything possible to get herself back on track. However, she does not believe in herself and does not consider herself worthy of Brock’s love.
On the other hand, Brock is an easy-going, determined guy. He loves Cecelia deeply. It is his persistence that makes her realize her self-worth.
I liked how they both supported each other to overcome their flaws.
However, I do have quibbles with the book.
Firstly, there are references to characters that are a part of previous books/series so, it was a little confusing to read. This was also the reason why I could not connect with most of the secondary characters. They felt more like an intrusion, rather than a support to the protagonists.
Further, Cecelia’s backstory is referred to in bits and pieces throughout the book, so, upon finishing the book, I got the complete picture. But I would have liked to get this picture beforehand.
Also, I was not completely immersed in the story. I just felt the story did not fully capitalize on what the blurb offered.
Bottom line, while I loved the main couple, I wanted a more wholesome experience.

Sounds okay. I don’t mind insta love as long character have time to know each other in book or was presented well.

Exactly, Yesha. I don’t mind insta-love either. Sometimes these stories are presented really well. It’s just was not the case in this one. I loved the main couple, but not the other characters so much.

A supportive relationship is great, but, like you, I”m not a fan of insta-relationships. An interesting review, though, especially your thoughts on how mentioning characters from previous books (I guess this one is a spin-off of another series) can feel distracting to new readers. I often wonder how authors decide on how much backstory to include.

Oh, yes, it was a spin-off, but I didn’t realize so many characters will be popping in from the other series. Thanks for reading, Toni. 🙂

I am not a fan of insta-love either. But, occasionally, I read books that feature insta-love just for a different kind of a reading experience. I was looking for just that. However, I wasn’t successful. Thanks for reading and commenting, Tammy. 🙂
