A slice-of-life account of a woman who falls in love with a gangster.
WHAT’S THE BOOK ABOUT
Single mother Francesca is struggling to get by when an act of desperation leads to her owing a debt to notorious gangland boss, Tony Lambrianu. Tony has his own troubles – a change of image from playboy to respectable married man is needed to further his criminal career. He has women falling at his feet, but none he wants to make his wife. As Francesca is drawn deeper into the dark underworld dealings of Tony and his associates, she has to make alliances of her own to survive. And she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her small son. This is a roller coaster ride of high stakes, dirty tricks, loyalty and love. Strap in – it’s a hell of a trip!
I never planned to chase tornadoes across their paths of destruction. But in an instant, my world shattered. In my grief, I hoped that joining my late fiance’s storm-chasing team would help me feel closer to him. But instead, I grew closer to his brooding best friend, who wants nothing to do with me. Loss made me wiser, though—now I know that some things are worth risking heartbreak.
I knew it would be a perfect storm. Me and Drew in close quarters? It would threaten to blow my self-control to shreds. No one ever knew I burned for my best friend’s girl, and I wanted to keep it that way. I tried to keep my focus on storm chasing, but my feelings for her are like the tornadoes we pursue—powerful, all-consuming and impossible to outrun.
Kris fell head over heels in love with Nicole, the promiscuous waitress that everybody warned him against. But he didn’t listen. He loved her. Six years and two adorable kids later, he still loves her. However, Nicole is hardly ever around for the kids, or for him. One call from the boss, Darren Hart, and she is off to work.
Kris was the best thing that happened to Nicole—the girl who had always been alone. A dysfunctional family and a father who could never hold a job for long resulted in Nicole working her ass off since she was young.
And then one fine day, Kris enters her life. Six years later, she is now a journalist and moonlights as a (successful) novelist. She is a workaholic, which severely diminishes her time with family. Add into this precarious mix the marital troubles of her overbearing boss-cum-best friend, Darren, and her life is ready to tip over the edge.
Another year is going to end in two days. Another year in which I have spectacularly failed to reach my reading goals. Yet, among the few books that I read, these are the books that stand out for me. Have a look:
Set among the vineyards in Southern France and Central California, Crush: A Tale of Two Vineyards by Joye Emmens is an enchanting novel that celebrates the resilience of human spirit and the blossoming of love.
Olivia found her calling in winemaking after spending summers in her grandparents’ vineyard in California, Clos de Harmonie. She eventually pursues a degree in Viticulture and Enology and decides to complete her Master’s degree project at a Frenchman’s biodynamic vineyard in France that has been tended to by his family for the last five generations. It’s love at first sight for Olivia and Luke, the Frenchman. As she spends her time in Luke’s family vineyard, she is constantly racked by the guilt that she is neglecting Clos de Harmonie.
A tragic turn of events leads Olivia to return to California. She decides to get Clos de Harmonie certified as a biodynamic vineyard. No one thinks she can do it. Can Olivia prove herself? Can she turn around a decrepit vineyard and not lose Luke in the process?
to my first author Q&A. I have been wanting to do them for quite some time
but couldn’t since I’m a big
procrastinator. Nevertheless, let’s dive into this feature.
I’m interviewing indie author Sacha T.Y. Fortuné. I liked her debut
contemporary romance novel, Climbing The
Walls, very much. Her characters and their struggles are still deeply
entrenched in my mind.
Please feel free to check out my review of Climbing The Wallshere.
