Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams – Review

Bromance Book Club #3

WHAT’S THE BOOK ABOUT

Alexis Carlisle and her cat café, ToeBeans, have shot to fame after she came forward as a victim of a celebrity chef’s sexual harassment. When a new customer approaches to confide in her, the last thing Alexis expects is for the woman to claim they’re sisters. Unsure what to do, Alexis turns to the only man she trusts—her best friend, Noah Logan.

Computer genius Noah left his rebellious teenage hacker past behind to become a computer security expert. Now, he only uses his old skills for the right cause. But Noah’s got a secret: He’s madly in love with Alexis. When she asks for his help, he wonders if the timing will ever be right to confess his crush.

Noah’s pals in The Bromance Book Club are more than willing to share their beloved “manuals” to help him go from bud to boyfriend. But he must decide if telling the truth is worth risking the best friendship he’s ever had.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK

After revealing she was a victim of sexual harassment by a celebrity chef, Alexis became famous. Being a survivor, she has opened her beloved café to other sexual abuse/harassment survivors to come and share their stories.

While she is yet to fully process her trauma, she is left reeling by a devastating news about her father, whom she has never met before, and who has never contacted her before despite knowing about her.

Noah, on the other hand, wants to be more than friends to Alexis but is afraid of losing their friendship if she says no.

Well, matters are complicated. How does the Bromance Book Club help Noah and Alexis come together?

I liked Crazy Stupid Bromance, the third book in the Bromance Book Club series by Lyssa Kay Adams. It upholds the tradition of this series, which is a book club formed entirely of men helping their mates win over their love with the help of a romance novel.

Needless to say, this translates to a book within a book. Well, the action starts quite late here at 28%. By action, I mean the emergence of the said romance novel that educates the hero on how to woo the woman he loves.

Further, there are hilarious moments sprinkled throughout the book, just like the previous books in this series.

Lyssa Kay Adams is brilliant in crafting the scenes where the characters realize their faults and understand that besides their partner, it was also their behavior that contributed to the rift in their relationship.

She makes her characters go through this journey of self-realization, and she takes her readers along for the ride.

In this case, for instance, I loved how Alexis transforms into a person who doesn’t back down from a fight unlike her previous self where she would choose not to reply to unfair comments or attacks because she thought by doing this, she was bringing peace into her life.

I also loved how both Alexis and Noah vent their pent-up emotions about losing their parents at a young age, and I cried with both, for both. I could feel their grief, which was so raw even after so many years of losing their parents.

However, I found the sex scenes to be bland. But this may be because it was a friends-to-lovers story, which is a trope I personally don’t like. Also, the romance book within this book was woefully short, unlike the first book in the series. I was a bit disappointed by this.

To conclude, Crazy Stupid Bromance is a delightful, heartfelt romance novel, but it doesn’t eclipse the brilliance of the first book in this series. However, it is loads better than Book 2. Recommended for romance lovers.

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE BOOK

“She’d never been able to turn her back on a lonely creature. Lonely creatures were almost always fighting a battle no one knew about.”

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

““We all have,” Malcolm said. “But there’s a big fucking difference between what society teaches us what a real man does and what a good man does. And good men are willing to do the hard, emotional labor on themselves to be strong partners to the people we love.””

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

““Memories are unfair, you know? They don’t tell us until it’s too late that this one, this detail, is the thing you need to hang on to. Why do we remember the weird little stuff but not the big things?””

Lyssa Kay Adams is the pen name of an award-winning journalist who gave up the world of telling true stories to pen emotional romances. She’s also a diehard Detroit Tigers fan who will occasionally cheer for the Red Sox because her husband is from Boston.

Lyssa lives in Michigan with her family and an anxiety-ridden Maltese who steals food and buries it around the house and who will undoubtedly be a character in a future book.
